I want to use the measure tool.  I calibrate with no issues.  When I choose a measuring function, my document screen turns blue and I cant see the document.  Does any other user experience this issue?

I have found the solution!

Show the measurement panel (Alt+U)

In the drop down under "Measurements", deselect "Highlight Viewports"

Voila!

Also, on the right you'll see a small window/box as part of the measurement options when you select a measurement tool that. You can hit the trashcan dropdown and selected Delete All From Document. This is a first step I do whenever I load up a new .pdf. Also, even if the boxes don't actively annoy you, if you set a scale that just happens to overlap one of these viewports, and then you try and measure anywhere else on that sheet, it wont have the right scale again (that's the point of the viewports, having multiple distinct scales on 1 sheet).

Good point, you can also apply scales to whole pages instead of using viewports
