1) Add text markup to pdf (in this case, a book).
2) His "escape" key to exit text edit.
3) Cursor switches to "hand" mode. The cursor moves but no other action can be taken of any kind.
4) The cursor freeze is broken only by saving the file. Then you can return to normal work.
4) This happens every time you add text to a pdf and has been in effect for at least the least several updates.
Hard to believe this bug hasn't been picked up so maybe there's another explanation for what's going on.
