Combine Multiple PDF files with common names to Single PDF's

Is there a way to batch combine multiple common name files into single files. For example I have the following files (Files could be in the hundreds)
ACW-601 (1 of 2)
ACW-601 (2 of 2)
ACW-602 (1 of 2)
ACW-602 (2 of 2)
ACW-603 (1 of 2)
ACW-603 (2 of 2)
ACW-604 (1 of 2)
ACW-604 (2 of 2)

and I want to batch combine them into
ACW-601
ACW-602
ACW-603
ACW-604

Adobe has a plug-in that works wonderfully.  Another way is to use a Python script and you do not need to use BB or Adobe.
