Now I'm suspicious
« on: August 02, 2019, 03:41:11 pm »

I just announced we hit 500 members.  I have to admit I was surprised as I didn't think we were that close.  So I looked at the stats.  We had 212 new subscribers in July.  That's more than the entire year 2018.  And most all joined within a 7 day stretch.  Something about this seems fishy.  I thought maybe the Bluebeam eXtreme Conference was on and we got mentioned / pushed in a panel.  But that isn't until later this month.  I've attached a screen shot showing the stats for those 7 days.  The second column from the right is how many people joined each day.  I've look over the registered email addresses and almost all are email "services" like Gmail located in other countries.

Anyone else think this is "unusual".

After looking over all those added accounts, I have determined they were bot accounts - they have been deleted.  Today there were 40 accounts awaiting activation as well - all bots.  I have deleted those as well.  I have re-done the security questions and knocked the CAPTCHA up to the next difficulty level.  Hopefully this will put an end to the bots - for now.
